Wycliffe Well was sunk in late 1875 as one of four government wells put down along the route of the OT line between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek. After a grazing licence was granted to a nearby station owner in 1917 a vegetable garden was established. By 1939 two local miners were growing vegetables to sell to the miners in the nearby wolfram and gold mines. For military purposes in 1941 Wycliffe Well became an army farm up until 1945. During the sixties, the existing roadhouse was built on one of the ex-army floor slabs. Today the wayside inn is renowned for its UFO sightings. Their caravan park is a little out of this world, interesting murals are everywhere, some say it’s an outdoor art gallery. Life size character statues especially the green aliens capture your attention.
