Arlpwe Art & Culture Centre was officially opened in June 2008 in Ali Curung, Northern Territory. Ali Curung has a small population of 500 people. The art centre operates to support traditional culture and generate new art practices. The traditional owners of this land belong to Kaytetye language group with Alyawarr, Warlpiri and Warumungu being the three other language groups that form the community. The art centre specialises in painting, artefacts, jewellery, and craft. Every year, Arlpwe Art & Culture Centre organises a festival celebrating the indigenous cultures living in Ali Curung.
Arlpwe (pronounced Arlboe) means, “…this country all over, no waterhole, no rivers, only soakage and spinifex country”. Visitors are welcome from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. The art studio is open to the general public from Monday to Thursday 10am to 2pm. The art gallery is open to the general public by appointment.
